London's Carnaby Street became the epicentre of the mod upheaval and of male fashion. In 1967, it was lined with twenty-five boutiques. The naming of boutiques became virtually a literary genre. Hung On You exploited contemporary vernacular usage, making multi-faceted references to music, to relationships, and to customers. People came from abroad to London simply to shop. Carnaby Street and the King's Road became fixed landmarks on the itineraries of young tourists as boutique culture flourished.
