Inspiration from Christian Dior - 1960

Today's spectacular garment is a strapless ball gown by Christian Dior for Spring, 1960.  This gown was designed by Yves St. Laurent as part of the collection which would ultimately be his last for Dior.  Pink was a hugely popular color in 1960 and this gown is made of a melon pink silk organdy.  The organdy also fashions ruffles that explode at the bodice and hem.

Minimalistic

Hi guys,

I hope you all have been well. Today's outfit is minimalist and simple, an easy option on my day off. The weather in England has been terrible as we haven't had a proper summer yet, quite the opposite, the sky is grey and it has been raining non- stop.
So in between showers, I quickly snapped these pics. It's not warm, neither cold and I chose to go out in a maxi dress with my new kimono. It's the 'semi summer' wardrobe for a nonexistent summer, get the summer feeling without the sun!

I was wearing: Kimono + Bag: Zara, Dress: H&M, Shoes: Urban Outfitters, Belt: Whistles, Rings: H&M and Asos, Necklace: Portobello Market.

See you soon.

Inspiration from Nina Ricci - 1960

Today's inspiration comes from Nina Ricci.  Jules Francois Crahay was the designer for Ricci in 1960 and his genius is evident in this cocktail length dress paired with a full length opera coat, both in an opulent Middle Eastern inspired silk.  The coat is accented with black fox fur collar and cuffs.  Silver shoes echo the silver threads in the fabric.  Black kidskin gloves finish the look.

Spying with my little eye

An amazing Fendi clutch!

Head Case

Turbans, scarves, and bandanas are everywhere! Historically the 'turban' was traditionally worn in the Middle East, Africa, and parts of Asia, and they were introduced to English fashion in the 1700s. The expansion of trade opened Europe to other cultures. Turbans have been a fixture in the fashion world throughout the past century and have been worn by famous starlets and socialites, including the sophistication associated with Hollywood glamour of the 1920s and '30s when women like Greta Garbo and Gloria Swanson wore them.
My interest however in this latest fashion 'trend', did not come from seeing them on the 2011 high fashion runway shows of Giorgio Armani, Vena Cava, and Prada; it came from my mom. For her, it is a fun and fashionable alternative to the wig—not to mention a more comfortable one too.  Scarves have helped her and many other women maintain their sense of style and femininity while experiencing hair loss due to chemotherapy.
